Return! Follow in the centuries-old tracks of the salt smugglers, as they made their way from the Mediterranean Sea through some of Northern Italy’s most spectacular countryside and back.
This adventure is ideal for those keen to experience Langhe - Barolo wine country - in fall colors and during white truffle season, as well as two fairly unknown regions nearby: the Monferrato, tranquillissimo notwithstanding its vicinity to Milan and Turin, and the Maritime Alps - Riviera, where we will wander through olive groves and imposing hill towns below 9,000-foot peaks, only a few miles away from the Mediterranean.

Piedmont’s diverse geography and cultural heritage is reflected in its wonderfully varied cuisine and wines. We’ve created three different ‘cook & explore’ tours in this region that will take us from the cafés of Turin to the hilly vineyards of Barolo and the mountain hamlets of the Alps.

Founded and directed by a team of expert local guides, Adventures in Northern Italy offers one to ten day walking tours of Northern Italy's most beautiful cities and spectacular countryside, which can be customized to your individual tastes and interests.
Our excursions combine visits to the art treasures of historic city centers with leisurely lunches in charming hill towns or walks along pilgrimage routes above the Mediterranean Sea. On any given day, you may find yourself admiring the coastline from a table in the piazza of one of the Cinque Terre, or in the heart of the Alps, taking part in a cooking class on regional cuisine taught by a local chef.
As you stroll along terraced vineyards, set against magnificent landscapes, or taste some of the finest wine in Italy at one of our friends’ vineyards, you will begin to understand why we chose to focus on this vibrant European crossroads, and what differentiates it from the rest of Italy.
