Our tours will give you the opportunity to explore everything that Northern Italy has to offer, from charming piazzas and hidden courtyards to spectacular coastal nature preserves and serene olive groves nestled between sea and mountain. It is our experience that walking or hiking is the best way to really see Italy, to discover its art and culture, to appreciate its culinary excellence (“bontà culinaria”) and especially to meet the locals. On foot, we are able to escape the crowds, who tend to flock to the ‘famous’ sights, and visit a world in which man has succeeded in transforming Nature in harmony with the land, not against it.
To make it easier for you to decide which of our tours would best suit you, we have developed the following levels, which describe the approximate ease or difficulty of our walks and hikes. Please note that time estimates do not include stops along the way, and that ascents/descents refer to the total daily vertical gain/drop. If you are not sure about how well prepared you might be for a particular tour, please do not hesitate to contact us for more details; tours can also be customized to suit your group’s walking level.

Level 1 – Easy WalksAverage of 2 - 4 hours of walking per day, in cities or towns, or in the countryside and on dirt roads; trails are on stable terrain with only gradual inclines or descents, from 0 - 900 feet. Equipment we recommend: good quality walking shoes that breathe and that have been broken in beforehand; hat, sunglasses and plenty of sunscreen; waterproof, lightweight rain jacket.

Level 3 – More Strenuous HikesAverage of 4 - 6 hours of walking per day on more difficult and rocky trails; due to the possibly slippery and exposed terrain, previous experience in mountain hiking is required; occasionally steep ascents and descents in the range of 1200 - 2200 feet. Equipment we recommend: sturdy, high quality hiking boots, that breathe and that have been broken in beforehand; telescopic walking sticks; hat, sunglasses and sunscreen; wool cap with earflaps; warm, waterproof gloves; long sleeve pile jacket; spare socks; waterproof rain jacket or wind breaker; all clothing should be warm, but lightweight, and dry quickly.
